My why

Experienced Business and Trust Lawyer

I started WalshLaw to serve businesses and the individuals and families who run them, as a legal advisor but also as a partner, consultant, and collaborator. My singular goal is to help you take advantage of legal benefits that bolster your growth and profitability, and find creative solutions to legal problems that get in the way of growth. My firm and I focus primarily on business transactions and formations, mergers and acquisitions, general counsel issues, real estate transactions, contracts and contract disputes, and trusts and estates. I am an experienced business lawyer with over 20 years of practice. I began my legal career as a civil law contract attorney, criminal prosecutor, and estate planner as a lawyer and Captain for the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps. After active duty, I moved to the private sector with Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin (now international law firm Husch Blackwell LLP) as a corporate transactional and M&A attorney. In 2011, I went in-house to work with my wife’s family business Sunrise Advisors, where I served as General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, investment advisor, investment committee member, Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), and ultimately shareholder. I helped many of our clients with their estate planning and the legal needs of their businesses and foundations through my law firm Heritage Estate & Legal Planning LLC (aka HELP Law Firm, now WalshLaw). We sold Sunrise Advisors to Creative Planning in 2020.

I enjoy applying my diverse legal and business background and experience to help clients better their businesses, business operations, and personal estates, and resolve legal issues that get in their way. I’m a lifelong Kansan, raised in Onaga, Kansas, a rural farming community two hours northwest. I married a local BVHS girl from Leawood. I am a Double Domer, having received both degrees—Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor—from the University of Notre Dame.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and extended family, and raising funds and awareness of Type 1 Diabetes in support of my oldest son. I also enjoy coaching and watching youth sports, being outdoors (preferably among mountains), and laughing with friends and loved ones as much and as often as I can.

I hope to meet you soon, and am excited to help you however I can.
